I don't know what points you want me to address.

His questions sounded rhetorical to me i.e. more statement of fact than question. So I thought I had the right to reply, obviously not.

And you STILL haven't addressed any of my points. Laughing  It's because you know I'm right.

"Do they purposely lose a bunch of games to get a low ranking b4 joining?"

an attack or a question

So you don't think my opinion is valid BenkiuGuasu? I'd say when people are attacked for no reason that they have a right to explain, wouldn't you? Laughing

(By the way Salt's rating is now in the 1500's. When I wrote my response to him it was in the 1200's. Hence the lack of reply from him - his position is untenable)

Looks like you've touched a nsgenius nerve, salt.

In my case having joined chess.com I wanted to play a tournament asap so I think I played my first 5 games a bit too quickly in order to qualify for a tournament  - thereby losing most of them, but not deliberately.

However, my rating now baffles me. I play on facebook (which is run by chess.com) and my rating is only 1350.

I think it's good though that there are some big improvements in rating. Should mean that some good chess is played in the latter stages.

Well salt2001 your ranking is too high as well.

My ranking was correct when this tournament started, nearly 4 months ago. I'm sorry that I've had the audacity to win games in between (not to mention 9/10 in the first round in this tourny) - that'll increase your ranking quickly. In fact I would have thought that it was impossible for the qualifiers for the later rounds to keep their rankings below 1200 given that they must have won a lot of games by definition.

As for purposefully losing to get into lower tournaments - thats just a dumb accusation. I would have to lose a lot of games to players way below me to get my ranking down that far, and that's not going to happen deliberately. It's just caused by these tournaments taking waaaay to long to play out. People will improve as it progresses - simple fact.

If it makes you feel better I had to join the 1401-1600 group for the 7th Chess.com tourny and my ranking is now too high for that group also - what do I do??

Why are there 18 players ranked over 1500 in this tournament?  Do they purposely lose a bunch of games to get a low ranking b4 joining?   The rating is suppose to be 1001-1200...not 1400-1900+!

Yep he should but I expect he'll wait another 44 hours and then move his king around. With black needing to promote and white refusing to accept the inevitable this game could go on for ages.

Ok of the five games left three are completely meaningless, someone else has already won the group. They also happen to be games in which one player should have resigned by now. When 'resigning' forum topics come up people are blasted when they say that players who wont resign under any circumstances are annoying, but it's true - they are annoying. (No disrespect meant to their opponents by the way)

The other two games are deciding a group so good luck to those players.
