I've never played 960 before, but I don't mind the set-up. I was surprised a few times and I lost my g-pawn (or worse!) immediately. JimEBau's knight development seems a natural idea.

After noticing that the bishops don't initially target the rooks third square, my tactic has been to develop a rook, oddly enough. Though for the record I don't think this is actually sound... Cool

I also have neglected a traditional pawn "center" for something slightly off center, as it may be more defensible.

I find it hard too, without having standard openings it is difficult to both create space and activate pieces.  We have some players who could not stand the confusion it has caused them as their brains went on overload......  They just gave up, I hope the rest of us will just play the best that you can.  Remember, everyone is in the same boat!  Except for Winklerd that is, he has it all figured out it appears.  He has yet to lose a game and he tore me a new asshole!

BigDaddy  & zapwai are taking no prisoners either!  They have yet to lose a game either....  So if you need advice..... ask them!

Actually, these games are some of the most-difficult that I've played.  We have had some extremely closed positions.  It is quite difficult to manuever one's way through to anything.  Watch out for the opening positions.  It looks like moving at least one of your knights out early may be a universally applied idea, no matter the starting position (that's just an observation on my part, not necessarily a maxim).

When we can get at least 2 more then we can start.........  we can do 8 groups of 3 with 1 advancing or 6 groups of 4 each with 1 or 2 advancing......  either of those sound good to you guys?  I put 52 just so all members could participate, but I never expected that to be the case.  If we get 3 more it is not a problem of course if we do 25 5/5 w/ 2 or 3 advancing....  If you wish to wait longer for 5 or 8 more registrations that is no problem either...............
