Hi Rueti and Elubas - I wasn't blaming you, and didn't want to mention names; it just gets a bit frutstrating when lower rated players like me think we're in a tournament with our equals (more or less), and then find we're up against guys who are so much stronger - it's as if the National Championship of Wales were suddenly to introduce Magnus Carlsen as an honorary Welshman... @DaoudL:  For me it is the same situation as for Elubas: When I joined the tournament, my rating was much lower than it is now.

People like me joined a long time ago before the rating really fleshed out. Because obviously it takes a certain amount of wins no matter what your strength from the start (1200) to get to 2000.

In my group alone there are two players who are respectively about 600 and 400 rating points above the maximum - what are they doing here?

Hey, why didn't we start?  We have 100.  Does the TD have to notice and start it manually?

I don't think that's so on the "honor system" thing.  I think you have to be in range (enforced) when you register.  You may then change before the tourney starts because of other games and it doesn't boot you.  That's happened to me before.  The chess.com official tournaments seem to have been an exception, because if you registered and then changed your status, it moved you automatically to the right stratification.

We're at 99.  This could start any second!

The tourney will not start until the date listed above : September 15th.

As far as the rating limits that's an honor system thing.   They shouldn't join if they are outside the limits but may not have noticed. It then falls to the tournament director to ask them to withdraw.

its 1400-1700 yet there are people rated higher and lower then that. I know when playing in offical chess.com turnys ppl are automaticly moved to the correct turny but what happens on unoffical turnys like this?

I'm guessing we're waiting for the quota to fill up first, so we need to encourage as many as possible to join
