This tournament rewards people who are consistent and can play solidly over a long term. Each round guarantees:

  • A minimum of 2 players from each group will advance each round.
  • Players who win half their games will advance to the next round
  • If players are in a group of equal players, all players have the possibility of advancing
  • If there is one dominant player and 3 equal players after the games are played, everyone would advance
  • Consistent sound play is rewarded with the opportunity to advance
  • There are no tie breaks (so the players with the same point totals will advance.)

For those of you who always seem to finish second, here is your tournament. For those of you who think you should have been able to defeat the player who wins the group, here is your chance to prove it. For those of you who have blundered away a game to lose chances at advancing, here is your redemption. Of course, there can only be 1 winner at the end but it should be a fun tournament to find out who that is.

I hope that all of you have fun participating!

Cheers.

Right now we have a good example of what can happen to advance. Eiwob and I are locked in a struggle with no quarter. If I can work out a win and a draw, we will both advance; if I work out a win and a loss, Eiwob will advance with the group winner. If through sheer dumb luck and Eiwob plays blindfolded, I get two wins, I and the group winner will advance. I think it makes the games very exciting. I hope the rest of you are enjoying the games as much. Cheers, Arnie

yes, you have to set it up so that ties advance with no tiebreakers. you cannot set it up so that 3 of 4 go through every group but in many groups 3 of 4 and in a couple 4 of 4 will advance.

Hi many people say that positive thinking people view a glass as being half full.  I'm a very positive person but I frequently view it as being half empty - now that's because my glass is often a lovely glass of red wine and I've drunk half of it and I'm looking forward to drinking the other half.

That's called thinking 'outside of the box'

Regards from Peter from the good wine appreciation society

I think it largely depends on the contents of the glass...

No worries. This tournament will take a long time to progress due to the set up so 4 days of vacation should not mess anyone around as I am sure that many participants will be on vacation at some point during the tournament. Cheers.

This is the first tournament that I've registered for and I would like to check something before the start. I've just realised that starting next week (Mon 15th Sept) I'm going to be away for four days and I'm not sure if I'll be anyway near an internet connection. If the tournament starts before, or during, that time would people be happy for me to be on vacation for that time?

Once I get back I'll be able to participate fully (barring any emergencies) it's just the start I may have a problem with. I'm not sure of the etiquette in these matters so if it is a major problem I'll withdraw from the tournament and join another one once I get back.

Sorry if I'm messing people about.

Richard.
