Dont play against the rating. Play against the player and the pieces ;-) Try to beat them!

Jorrit53, If a player has not played many games their rating can rise suddenly with just a couple of wins. It may not be "fair" but they had to have a rating under 1400 before the tournament started whether they had played 2 rated games or whether they had played 200. It happens. If that person wants to play tournaments in the future they will be in a much higher rated tournament and their rating will level out eventually. Hope this helps.

It is not fair, one of my opponents suddenly is over 1800 in rating. This is a u1400 tournament is it? He cannot be that high that quick
