Is there anything we can do about my opponent who is on vacation and now holding up the round?

Ahh just realised that the 1st round is almost over..unfortunately i have to go away for 2 weeks from the 16th-30th June. I will try and log in  when i can, perhaps every few days if there is internet nearby but i do not know if there will be or not. So i will have to assume there isnt and do the right thing and withdraw now rather than hold up games in the next round :s

So apologies, i just didn't expect to be going on holiday so soon (last minute cheap deals)

Cheers fer understanding and good games to ye all.

re: vacation -- an option here, is the tournament director could state at the beginning of the tournament that if anyone goes on vacation for X number of hours/days, they will be removed - tourney director does appear to have rights to remove someone from the tourney.

I have a paid account which gives me the benefit of automatically putting me into vacation mode so I don't time out -- and (unfortunately) it already kicked in a couple of days ago, but I didn't leave me opponent hanging for too long -- so in my case, if the tourney director did do that, I selfishly would want a small bit of buffer. But, if I sign up for a fast tourney and don't comply, that's my fault.

Also, fyi - while there's not a setting forbidding vacation time in a tourney (though it seems that may be something to request from our kind overlords), there is a setting restricting people who join the tourney to a certain range of average time per move -- that way slow pokes like me could be prohibited from joining.

"I somewhat understand the tie break system, but does it still work with only two players?"

My assumption, and it looks to be true looking at some groups that have already split their two games, is that a tie simply means both people move on, since it seems there's no way with only two people to have different tie break points.

For some reason, I'd also been assuming that 2 people moving on would mean a larger group for both of them in the next round (e.g. since both people in a group moved on in the first round, both of those people are added to the next 2nd round group, putting 3 people in a group in that round) -- but I've no idea if that's true. If it's *not* true, and there are only ever 2 people in a group, then this could be a very long tournament if it requires a player taking both games to eliminate their opponent (esp. once noobs like me are eliminated and only the good players remain).

Nooo! I bought into this tourney figuring it'd be fast. Then my opponent went on vacation the very first day!. Crap. Well, hopefully it'll be me catching up to you in 30 days or so instead of him...

"If 2 players in a group have the same score then both will advance. Tournament Directors can choose to use an additional tie-break method (we use the Neustadtl score) which factors in the strength of the opponents. If two players have the same score and the same Tie Break score, both will advance."

Thanks for the response.

I somewhat understand the tie break system, but does it still work with only two players? In my other tournaments, it seems that you get tie break points based upon what your other opponents have done in other games. Here, there are no other opponents. Just curious.
