Proudly presented by Starfleet Academy ( http://www.chess.com/groups/home/starfleet-academy ), the Ruy Lopez is an e4 opening and was one of the favored openings used by Bobby Fisher. it remains a common opening and my personal favorite. Welcome, those of you who have joined, and those of you who have not, I certainly hope you consider!

Sadly, "marcovanderpark ", the top-rated player in this tournament, has withdrawn. This is a lost learning opportunity for all of us. I would rather have taken my two losses and learned than have been gifted two points. Best wishes "Marco"!

    Hello, everyone!

I've been doing some thinking about how I've managed tournaments I have sponsored and here are a couple changes I am making:

    1. To cease annoying people who don't want to be invited, I will no longer be sending out random invites.

    2. I will no longer use announcements for invites to groups.

    3. A group has been established called "Starfleet Marine Corps". I will be sending invites to my tournaments through this group. If you would like to continue to receive invites to my tournaments, feel free to join.

    4. "Starfleet Marine Corps" will remain open to Team Matches and Vote Chess. Please keep in mind, however, that if these activities do not interest you, you may always turn off group alerts at the group level by clicking the "alerts" link, right side of screen under the "Starfleet Marine Corps" logo.

    Thank you for participating!

I sure hope that Round 3 is easier than Round 2! What are the chances?

As I am going on holidays and don't have access to internet, I decided to withdraw. Good luck to all of you!

Glad to see Ruy Lopez as a tourney option. One of the first openings I learned and my favorite. Although I am relatively low ranked, I see a lot of the same patterns having played this opening so many times before. Good luck to all.

I tip my hat to all of you who joined this tournament, especially to those who are obviously outranked. I hope everyone has a good time with this tournament, and I hope everyone walks away with a little more knowledge and experience under their belts.

    When do we start?

Really? It's actually my favored opening. I'm not very well connected with friends and groups, so building the registration is going a little slow. Please hang in there, though. And thanks, everyone who entered, for doing so.
