The Joker is Dead!!!

Posted by Billium248 on Monday, Feb 15 at 5:50am

Hello Dark Knights,

The Joker (Amr14) has finally been removed from the tournament and will no longer be causing us any trouble!!!  In FIVE games he refused to open with a Dark Knight, and refused to resign.  So in 2 out of 3 rounds, he eliminated players who should have rightfully advanced.  I'm very sorry about that!!!  I will be creating another tournament and making it invitation only to avoid these problems in the future, and make it up to those of you who were wrongly eliminated.  In the meantime, if you ever see his name in a Team Match, Tournament, or whatever, make sure you stay away.  He is obviously a morally bankrupt cheater with no sense of decency whatsoever.  Avoid him at all costs!!!

The Dark Knight Opens 7/18

This could very easily be the absolute best Batman movie ever made!  I simply cannot wait.  I guarantee you won't see me playing any of my games within the first few hours of this tournament cuz I will be in the theater watching the movie.

You don't need to be a Batman fan to join this tournament.  You just have to agree that in your games as black, your first move is either Nc6, Nf6, Na6, or Nh6.  In other words, "The Dark Knight Opens."

Since this is my 1st time as a Tournament Host, I welcome all 1st time Tournament Players.  This tournament is open to EVERYONE regardless of your stats.

The response to this idea has been so great that I have started The Dark Knight Opens (group 3).  In keeping with the 4->1 format, the top 4 players in each group will get an invitation to "The Dark Knight Finals."  All games in all 3 groups will begin the moment the movie is released in my time zone.

If you are registered in one group PLEASE DO NOT register in the others!  Think of them as 3 separate groups of the same tournament rather than 3 separate tournaments.

When I first set this tournament up, I was hoping that I might get close to the 100 maximum players.  I had no idea that over 200 people would be interested.  This is simply incredible.  Thank you so much for your overwhelming support.  I'm almost scared at how many people will be registered by the time the movie is actually released.  All games in all groups will begin on July 18th at 12:01 EDT. (regardles of the number of players)

Thanks for playing along with this crazy idea.  I look forward to a fun tournament.

Well, I doubt he will resign. Now that I know you will remove him at the end of the round I will just play the game out. It just galls me that I resigned to someone who would likely beat me 999 out of a thousand games.

The actual custom trophies are distrubetd automatically at the end of the tournament.  I started sending "fun" trophies to people who were eliminated, advanced, or completed a checkmate with a knight, but I've fallen WAY WAY behind in that aspiration.

Apparently I DO have the option of removing him AFTER all of his games are completed, and BEFORE the next round begins (and you can be sure that I will).  But apparently, as long as he has active games (even if they are invalid), my hands are tied.  I have continued to send him messages and notes every day.  He has never responded, and deleted my notes from his profile page (I just put another one on there the next day).  If we ALL keep hounding him, maybe eventually he'll give in (one can hope).

Billium248, don't you distribute the trophies? Or do they automatically go to the order of finish?  If he ends up winning make the trophy a biggest loser or biggest cheater trophy. I'm sure he'll display it proudly.

I have also sent MANY MANY messages and notes to him in both English and Arabic, and gotten no response.  He is making a mockery of this tournament.  I have tried to remove him, but apparently I am unable to do so as long as he has active games.  I have tried contacting the Chess.com authorities who are unwilling to do anything about it.  Yell

AMR14 - YOU ARE CHEATING!!!  YOU HAVE DISREGARDED THE RULES ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND REFUSE TO ANSWER ANY OF US.  EVERYONE ELSE IS FOLLOWING THE RULES EXCEPT YOU!!  YOU NEED TO WITHDRAW FROM THE DARK KNIGHT TOURNAMENT IMMEDIATELY!!!

Skeleton, I am also in that group and have resigned two games where I forgot to open with my dark knight. One game I resigned was against You and one against AMR14 from Egypt.  He (AMR14) will not do the honorable thing and resign the other game I have with him where HE (AMR14) failed to follow that same rule. He passed through the last round while not resigning games there.  There is nothing we can do. If he does not resign we can not get him out. Repeated requests are simply ignored. I've even sent them in Arabic.

Here's the funny thing though. He (AMR14) has been a member for only a few months and is already rated over 2400.  If he (AMR14) will cheat on the rules of a tournament then he will also cheat on the games themselves. I believe that he (AMR14) is an arrogant flea ridden camel herder who is so full of himself and his need to conquer the infidels that he sees this as a form of Jihad or Islamic war.  He has no honor and ALL of his wins are completely meaningless.

If I'm off base here AMR14 feel free to jump in and straighten me out.

I am making it my personal quest to have you (AMR14) removed from Chess dot com.

I hear you on the 7 days thing.  This was my 1st time setting up a tournament, so... live and learn.  I will probably change the time controls for the Finals (can't do anything about it till then tho).

I hope you guys are all enjoying the tournament.  Why don't you check out the blog and give us more details.  So far I'm the only one that's really posting over there.  Tell us about how you made it to the second round, or how you went down fighting.  Post your most triumphant win or your most humiliating loss.  I would LOVE to hear some details.

In my first 2 games I didnt see the major rule of Tournament and  played Sicilian and then resigned!

Now I think I will be second in my group and I am not very sure that I will pass to next round.

Sorry for not reading rules on time.

I’ve been asked a couple times now about the number of players advancing to the finals, the number of rounds, etc.  Good questions.  Let's do the math.  There are 3 Major Groups of 100 broken into 25 Minor Groups of 4 each (75 total).  So at least 75 players will advance to round 2 (25 per Major Group) - probably more with all the ties and draws.

Just for simplicity sake let's say 25-32 players advance to round 2 in each Major Group (75-96 total).  That would make 7-8 Minor Groups of 4 per Major Group.  So at least 7-8 players will advance to Round 3 in each Major Group (21-24 total).

7-8 players will be broken into 2 Minor Groups (possibly 3 if 9-12 players advance).  This will produce 2-4 players advancing to Round 4 from each Major Group (6-12 total).

So Round 4 will be the Final Round of The Dark Knight Opens where I guess everyone will essentially advance, they'll just be fighting over the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Custom Trophies set up for The Dark Knight Opens.

At that time, I set up another tournament called The Dark Knight Finals (which is essentially Round 5 of the Dark Knight Tournament) and invite the top 4 players from each Major Group (12 total).  This will make 3 Minor Groups (possibly 4 in case of even 1 tie in round 4).

Regardless, this means that 3-4 players will advance to the 6th and Final Round of the tournament to compete for the Custom Trophies set up for The Dark Knight Finals.

Unless there is at least 1 tie in round 4 which causes there to be 4 groups in round 5 instead of 3, AND there is at least 1 tie in round 5 as well which would cause at least 5 players to advance to Round 6 instead of 4 which would make 2 groups instead of 1 and force a Round 7.

Wow!  6-7 Rounds!  They may have the next Batman movie done before this tournament is complete.  ;)
