Ready to start....

Posted by ChessIntegrator on 12/25/11 at 7:02 AM

Hi all,

We will start The Unit World League Series in just a couple of hours. Last few days I have been busy removing wrongly registered players from the tournaments and trying to guide them to the correct one. There still might be players who have registered for the wrong tournament, I tried to check everything but I might have overlooked some of them. I would like to request you to check whether you are in the correct tournament by making sure that your flag coincides with the tournament that you registered for. If not, please withdraw yourself from the tournament and try to register for the correct one. After the tournaments have started, I will still be checking whether there are some players wrongly registered I will remove them, so please let's try to avoid those situations....

So... get ready....

Welcome to The Unit World League Series: Oceania.

The goal of these tournament series is first play a tournament according to the region where you live. Then the first 10 players of each region will go battle it out in the final. This final tournament will have 60 players, based on the fact that there are six regions:

  • North America (also includes Central America)
  • South America
  • Asia
  • Europe
  • Africa
  • Oceania

If you are from one of the following countries, then you are looking to participate in the correct tournament:

  • Australia
  • Cook Islands
  • Fiji
  • Kiribati
  • Marshall Islands
  • Micronesia, Federated States of
  • Nauru
  • New Zealand
  • Niue
  • Palau
  • Samoa
  • Solomon Islands
  • Tonga
  • Tuvalu
  • Vanuatu

If you are not from one of those counties, then please check out the following tournaments. You have to register for the correct tournament, I will remove people who have registered incorrectly and message them the correct one. I will be looking at the flag to determine from which country you are.

If you like this initiative, please consider joining the group The Unit, which is the organizer of this tournament series:

http://www.chess.com/groups/home/the-unit

The idea behind this group is unity, as the name already implies. We want to form a group with all sorts of different levels, but with one common goal: To have members who put their best foot forward and who strive to treat every game as if it were the most important game and to make this group the most successful group in Chess.com, by not just thinking in the individual aspect of the game, but to experience to be part of a great group Playing chess in many expects is an individual activity. But the feeling to belong to a special group can create an extra dimension, like paying more attention and time to your games. A cohesive group is more than the sum of its parts, and synergy is the ability of a group to outperform even its best individual members. A group stands or falls with the participation of its members. In The Unit, YOU decide which other groups we challenge and YOU decide which thematic tournaments are created: http://www.chess.com/groups/home/the-unit

I believe 'blackWalleroo' would include painted, dyed, natural, and dead (any colour originally - rotted and decayed black)walleroos if I wanted to be pedantic....however, I am also sure that that would not have been Walter's intent. (P.S.I love Walleroos)

I believe oceania would, for example, include: UK, Eire, Sri Lanka, Madagaska, The Faulklands, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, The Philippines, Malta, Crete, Hongkong, guam, Hawaii etc. All islanders are surrounded by the oceans of the world, thus making them elligible for oceania.
