i enjoyed the lecture, not too fast and easier to follow than others. ruy lopez looks fun to play, freezing that a knight is cool

What a great example on how to completely remove a piece from play.  Every potential square for the knight is controlled by white pawns.  It never has a chance to get in the game.  Spanish torture, indeed!

The concepts of shutting down active or potentially aggressive pieces is a true art. A gift learned and accentuated in all of your videos. You are a great teacher.

mr humble i think has it right. after gxf6 qg6+ kf8 gxf6 black has to sac their bishop. and no there is no obvious mate after that, but just white's ahead a piece and attacking, and thus easily winning. basically once white has shown the final strategic idea breaking through on the kingside, gm khachiyan's lesson is not about how to convert so he ended it there (also since the game was played at a gm level, black resigned there).

drumdaddy: i played with my chess board for about 30 mins and found that there are a couple ways to mate but i think black's best chance is to sac his bishop f6 after 1. ...gxf6 2. Qg6+ Kf8 3. gxf6 Bxf6 but i cant find anything after that... im sure theres another mate that im not seeing. i would hate to be black, though. i wouldn't have played Nf5 awhile back. but after watching all the vids, i recongnized that that was blacks best bishop. thanks for the vid. i learned a lot because thats the type of position where i wouldnt have had a good understanding of how to proceed.

This is a helpful look at the Ruy Lopez. I followed all the way up to the end, when you said it was lost. I am so slow that I need to be shown how and why it's lost. Maybe that will come in Part 2. Thanks for the good video.
