Armstrong's group had been advocating for years, that since 1975 would be the 6000th year of man's existence, God's judgement would come very shortly. To permit the 1000 yr. reign, prior to the ending of the big sabbath. This may have influenced Fischer's stance on many decisions. Fischer having listened for years on the radio. Armstrong also stated that God's wrath would be aimed chiefly at the U.S.A., that also influenced many people of his generation.  After the promised end did not occur (many waited the suggested ten - fifteen years). Fischer began to persue playing chess again.

The inability to know whom he could trust still impaired his decisions, and found that many were not open to permit him to play again. He was a fatherless Brooklyn street kid with no social skills. That made him a confused, socially inept individual with issues, not a lunatic. He followed a charasmatic religious leader who wrapped his bull around a piece of a truth, and got burned.
