Learning from Scandinavia!
Hi all, weekly matches are back! This weeks theme is Scandinavia, in particular two countries that have really inspired me with their way of life and mentality. First of all, a tiny, easy quiz:
Name all the countries within Scandinavia and for a bonus, give us the capital city. (Please don't search up the answers, challenge your knowledge!).
Our focus is on Finland and Sweden which the matches are based on.
Finland is an amazing country due to their eco-friendly mentality that inspires us all. People clean up after themselves which reduces littering and they always do what they think is best for the world. BBC wrote an article that gave an example of how people in Finland prefer second hand items to IKEA (probably biased, but you get the idea). Also, the natural scenery is incredible with forests taking up 70% of the land, an area larger than Italy. Don't forget that the 'land of a thousand lakes' has 188000 of them! Just brilliant, exactly what this club wants to hear. All in all, Finland teaches us to have more respect for the natural assets of the world.
Sweden is known for its meatballs, fishing industry, its high taxation (31%) and many other positive things but politically it is making the biggest steps an activist country has ever made. To combat globalisation, Sweden have decided to distribute the wealth so that everybody gets good services like healthcare and education so the high taxes are worth it. They believe that equalising the economy by demanding more of its people gets magnificent results. Therefore, Sweden teaches us that prioritising the rich (Theresa May and Donald Trump want tax cuts for the rich) just weakens the link between people that globalisation is all about.
