A long time ago we missed the 55th birthday of Dougray Scott. Born in Glenrothes, Fife, Scotland, he was educated at Carleton Primary & Auchmuty High School, with close family in Barrhead, Glasgow, after which he trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama 1984-7 in Cardiff and was named most promising student. His early work as an actor was in Scottish national theatre and TV, then he moved to West London. He first really came to notice in Soldier, Soldier 1995, but made a bigger mark in Ever After: A Cinderella Story 1998 with Drew Barrymore, then Deep Impact 1998, but then by Mission Impossible 2 2000 he was a star and was the original choice as Wolverine for the X-Men series, but due to scheduling conflicts with MI2 and a motorcycle accident, the role went to Hugh Jackman. He then completed Enigma with Kate Winslet 2001 and was a close candidate to replace Brosnan as Bond 2002, which went to Daniel Craig. After To Kill a King 2003 as Fairfax, he was in the USA and appeared in minsieries Ten Commandments 2006 as Moses, having been in Arabian Nights 2000; this was followed by Desperate Housewives 2006-7; 2007 Hitman from the video games; BBC series Day of the Triffids 2009, was Arthur Miller in My Week with Marilyn 2011, also Matt Busby in United, about the Munich disaster 1958; later Hemlock Grove 2013-4 and Strike Back 2013, as well as Alec Palmer in Doctor Who’s “Hide”; in 2014 a villain in Taken 3; Full Circle 2016 + Fear the Walking Dead S2; Snatch 2017-8, Departure 2019, and most recently Batwoman 2019-21 & Crime 2021. Married to Claire Forlani since 2007 and they have lived in Pacific Palisades, Westside, Los Angeles; wherever he is in the world, he is still an avid supporter of Hibernian Football Club and Glasgow Celtic and is a regular chieftain at the Markinch Highland Games in Fife.
