Last weekend we learned with sadness of the passing of Sean Connery at the age of 90, who will always be remembered for setting the standard as 007 in the James Bond saga. He appeared as Bond in seven films in all, but went on to fully prove himself as an actor, winning an Oscar for The Untouchables in 1987 and boosting another franchise in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 1989 as the father of Indy, but there are so many memories - Macbeth 1961; The Hill 1965; Shalako 1968; The Offence 1973; The Man who Would be King 1975; Robin and Marian 1976; A Bridge Too Far 1977; Highlander 1986; The Hunt for Red October 1990; First Knight 1995; The Rock 1996 and so many more. He was knighted by the Queen for his services to drama in 2000. Born and raised in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh and always a true Scot, to pursue his career he moved to London where he lived for many years. After his success, he lived for many years in New York, and also Marbella in Spain and he passed away at his home in Nassau in The Bahamas. Those who are his staunchest fans will know that this was a blessed release as he had been in pain for some time with the quality of his life much diminished. His legacy on film will always be with us to provide strong evidence of his strength as an actor and man. Although we still have matches ongoing to celebrate his 90th, we believe more matches should still be held in his memory and in tribute and hope you will accept.
