One generally does not think of Yuri Averbahk when Chess is mentioned-even among aficionaddos of the game. Of course most of us know about some of his books, but did you know that he played in15 USSR Championships between 1949 and 1969 ? Averbahk was a man of many talents ; GM, Chess autor, Arbiter and Trainer. I have a copy of his "Averbahk's Selected Games" which was put out by Cadogan in 1998. The study of its 60 well-annotated games will benefit any serious chess player.
