Whether presented in science fiction, comedy, or modern (at the time) adventure ..... chess computers (or computers that also enjoyed chess) always had something to say and were often very polite.

2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY (1968)

"I'm sorry Frank. I think you missed it. Queen to bishop three, bishop takes queen, knight takes bishop, mate. Thank you for a very enjoyable game. "....... HAL 9000 computer to Gary Lockwood character.

WAR GAMES (1983)

" A strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of Chess?" .......WOPR computer (War Operation Plan Response)

" Thank you for a pleasant game. You played very well except for moves 14 through 17 which you played like an A##HOLE." ......... Chess Challenger (with robotic arm) computer to Charles Grodin Character.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (2005 movie - 1979 novel)

"Allright. The answer to the great question of life, the universe, and everything ......... forty-two!" ...........DEEP THOUGHT (the movie & novel computer that inspired the name for DEEP THOUGHT, the chess computer, which eventually led to DEEP BLUE)
