Fortune smiled on my last game of the season
I had White and had the following short game in our final league match of the season (Poitou-Charentes Division 1). The game was very short - I had lost as Black in the same opening trap. Here's the game
Black can struggle on at move 7 with 7...Nh6 8.Bxh6 O-O. In the game I lost, White continued 9.Bg5 d6 10.Bxe7 Qxe7 11.O-O and I soon had to resign (peterfics vvs DavidMMIX, FICS blitz game, 2011.09.17).
I think I was doubly fortunate (a) both in the 2009 game and in yesterday's game neither player spotted 6...Qf6 (which I only discovered using Game Explorer) and (b) because it was end-of-season and I was feeling lazy and not really looking forward to 7...Nh6 8.Bxh6 O-O. Fortunaely for me the game abruptly ended differently. Being a piece up in a league matcvh, I am on a hiding to nothing: if I fail to win I will be miserable and if I do win I will work hard and feel, all the same, it was a "book trap".
6...Qf6 was played in H Slaheddine (Tunisia, ELO 2261) versus A Najjar (Liberia, ELO 2326) in the 1992 Olympiad. Source: chess.com's Game Explorer. Black went on to win.
