Are Grandmasters Weak Against the Smith-Morra?

Dec 30, 2015, 4:30 PM 1

The Smith-Morra Gambit is an openning layed against the sicillian. You won't see it in the grandmaster level but is very popular at the club level. Recently I have been seeing many grandmasters loose to ametures that play the Smith-Morra Gambit on them. Just recently a 1700 beat a 2479 (grandmaster) using the Smith-Morra. As I said before, grandmasters don't normally play the Smith-Morra Gambit and forget the lines often. What do you think of the Smith-Morra Gambit?
