In the most awaited clash, Delhi Dynamite defeated GM Magnus Carlsen led Norway Gnomes in a one-sided 11.5-4.5 match score. Although coming into this match tied for second place in the Eastern Division, Delhi Dynamite needed a draw to clinch a spot in this year's playoffs. While Norway sitting just out of playoff qualification in the Eastern Division, a match win was critical.

Curiously, with so much at stake for Norway, Magnus Carlsen chose Chess 960esque style of openings. He played dubious openings essaying 1.Na3, 1.f3. and escaped a loss after blundering against GM Sahaj Grover. Meanwhile, this didn't stop GM M R Lalith Babu from punishing Carlsen for his trollish play. Lalith had a blazing performance and remained unbeaten with 4/4 match score.

With this victory, Delhi Dynamite qualified for playoffs!

Indian Champion Lalith Babu fired 4/4 on Norway Gnomes.

Team manager IM Vishal Sareen commented, "Well, this was totally unexpected! We would have always taken 8-8 in our stride. I can't remember Gnomes losing when Magnus played? At least not in the league stage. This victory with this (11.5-4.5) margin. I guess I need to pinch myself when I wake up tomorrow (smiles)."

With Mighty Magnus Carlsen playing, few big names were absent in yesterday's Delhi Dynamite line-up, "We were without our top-3 Hari (Krishna), Salem (Saleh), and Abhijeet (Gupta) and yet everyone was cheering for us," said IM Vishal Sareen.

This victory wouldn't have been possible without team's combined efforts. GM Vaibhav Suri, GM Sahaj Grover, and IM Hemant Sharma immensely contributed with their daring and uncompromising play.

GM Lalith Babu has a message for you. Click Here to watch it.

Lalith faced 1.f3 against Women's World Champion Hou Yifan in Gibralter Open last year.  He won in a record-breaking fashion, winning the game in just 5 moves! Yesterday, Carlsen did a 'Hou Yifan' (chose 1.f3) against Lalith and got severely punished.

Now, Lalith is the only player in the history to win against two World Champions in this opening. Replay the game.

Delhi Dynamite was already leading the scoreboard with a 2 point margin by the end of round 2.

Sahaj was on the verge to defeat Carlsen but couldn't muster up the point.

Here Black forks the f3 Bishop and d7 Rook. But to everyone's surprise, Carlsen went on to win this game.

However, there was another jinx moment which was costly for Norway Gnomes.

The commentators GM Simon Williams & IM Anna Rudolf couldn't believe their eyes!

Vaibhav escaped a deadly knight fork. What do you think White should play here?

Vaibhav pulled off another fine victory on board one against GM Nils Grandelius.

It was a memorable night for Delhi Dynamite. As sports fans know well, no one can escape the wrath of surprising defeats. Everyone had their bets on Norway Gnomes. Underdog Delhi Dynamite is a tough and determined squad; and proved it has all the perfect ingredients to bring down other teams.

We now rule the Eastern Divison ahead of Armenia Eagles and star-studded Mumbai Movers.
