Why The Chess Community & Other Communities Are Growing

Hello everyone, my name is Dinesh Satyavolu, and just started playing chess this year.

I have a fond relationship with chess in the past, my friend introduced me to the game. At that time, I had no interest in the game, felt like it was any other board game like Ludo and Checkers. I did not really look into it, what it really was behind the curtain, but alas, I quit in about 10 minutes. I was 7 or 8 at the time. So a few years passed, and a few months ago (Before Quarantine) I was thinking in my room what to do, I was bored and was about to watch some videos but I stumbled upon an idea. I need something to do with my life, I am a 13-year-old, but what is my future going to be? I was always thinking of going into computer science, but I did not get that much enjoyment but it. I thought for a while and I said to myself, let me give chess a second shot. I heard from my friend that chess players can really benefit from chess. So at this point, I wanted to do chess so I can get a living/some extra cash. So the next day, I went to my friend and told him I want to learn chess again. He agreed and we started playing. (I knew some basics) I played some games and got whipped. So I got the determination to beat him (He is a 795) I worked really hard to beat him, I joined a chess academy called Kings and Queen Chess (I will link it) I soon practiced and learned enough chess to finally get a decisive win against him. That was when I was changing my mindset about chess. I started rushing to look for more resources, to get stronger and better. Remember, I just started the game! So I told you this story to show how I got into the chess community, how I made chess my life goal, to get to the top. This is what is happening in other communities too, For example, I felt like solving a Rubix Cube because I was bored, I searched it up and found a channel called Cubical, I pressed on it and they are making a documentary about cubing, I was amazed! There is a community for Rubix Cube solving. Now this might seem funny, maybe a person called you a nerd when you play chess, or called you out for it, so these people might feel the same way, so please don't make fun of this group. I did not actually solve the cube but loved that there are communities for all these things. To get to the point, I made this so tell people that there are many things that you can do, and many people that are there to support you, to bring you in where there is nothing to do, to get you into something you will love. People are getting into new things, and they are all going to grow more communities, like how chess grew. This is what is going to make people get a job or a lifestyle that they can love and do, not one they do for money, like the mindset I first had, let me do chess to get money, not because I like it. So go out there, find what you like, and join that community.

Thanks,
