Nowadays, most players are not enthusiastic about studying endgames, especially when it comes to pawn endgames. The main arguments are:

  1. “It does not happen often.”
  2. “If it happens, I can figure a way out by calculation.”

Actually, pawn endgames do not happen often because most people do not know how to navigate this type of  endgame and try to avoid it at all costs. If you are not good at pawn endgames, check your endgames and you will likely be able to notice how many times you did not trade your pieces because you were not confident in your pawn endgame technique.

Additionally, the calculation is not as simple as it looks! Also, remember that you will not have enough time for thorough calculation close to the end of the game.

Because of this, it is important to regularly increase endgame knowledge by studying theory and solving endgame puzzles.

Game of the Week is: Muzychuk,Anna (2535) - Mammadzada,Gunay (2443)
