Slav Defense Ideas

Slav Defense Ideas

May 30, 2017, 10:00 AM 5

Hello everyone,

Today I wanted to teach you a little about the Slav Defense. Just in case you don't know what it is...

Now that you know, we can get into more interesting things. The Slav Defense is a very popular opening in the GM circles. This is because of two reasons: one, it is one of the most solid lines against the Queens Gambit. The reason being that if you take the d5 pawn, your opponent will take back with his c6 pawn, and nothing will be gained except for an open c-file. Two, it lends more support to your center. Here's game by Hikaru Nakamura vs. Vashy Anand

Alright, so, a crazy game with the Semi-Slav Defense: Anti-Moscow Gambit. As you can see, the Slav Defense is a very strong opening. It's being used at the highest levels in world-wide tournaments. But, one of the downsides - it just pops out at me - is that your knight can't get to its nice c6 square that it wants. I love my knights on that square.
Anyway, I hope everyone will like this, and I'll try to do another opening sometime soon!
