Norway Chess R7: The unbelievable miss of the World Champion
Little has gone right for Magnus Carlsen in this year's issue of Altibox Norway Chess 2017. The world champion has suffered two losses, and his play has been anything but what we are used to see. With weak openings, weird looking decisions, uncommon misses and lack of wins, he has made a whole world of chess wondering if an era is over.
In his game against Vladimir Kramnik in the seventh round of the super tournament, the world number one repeated this story.
This example shows how easily a king will get weakened if a sacrifice on h6 (or h7) is played out successfully, and thus how important it is to be aware of this classical opportunity. However, if you are to be a victim of such trick - remember that you are in good company!
