Webinar 91. How to Create and Take Advantage of Pins
Dear Chess Friends!
Did you know that 30% of all games are won because of pins? I’ve read this phrase in one of chess books (don’t remember the name of the author). And then I realized that it can be true. Pinning is one of the most common tactical motifs and it exists in almost every game. Sometimes it doesn’t affect the position, but it usually ties your (or enemy) pieces.
How often do you create and take the advantage of pins? I understand that at intermediate club players level, you are unlikely to gain the material using the pin. Usually, the other player prevents such an outcome. However, pins can also be useful when fighting for the positional advantage. By making a pin you restrict your opponents’ opportunities and get a few tempos to improve your position! But how to realize that the pinning motif exists in the position and, of course, how to detect it if a certain pin provides you with any advantage?
This is what I’m going to explain on my next webinar 91st “How to Create and Take Advantage of Pins” and I’m happy to invite you there. I’m going to explain how to notice a pin and be able to exploit it.
As usual, everything will be illustrated by GM’s games. The games I'm going to demonstrate at the webinar (and, of course, explain the ideas behind their moves):
- Jose Raul Capablanca – Marc Fonaroff
- Lazaro Bruzon Batista – Konstantin Sakaev
- Evgeny Bareev – Sergey Smagin
Join the webinar and improve your ability to feel when to open the pin. I’m sure you will learn a lot and improve your chess performance!
The webinar starts on Sunday (1st of August) at 10 a.m. (EDT), 2 p.m. (GMT), 5 p.m. (Moscow time). This webinar is free.
