This weekend I played in a local tournament with several people in my rating range, and I've got to say, I was pleasantly surprised by the interesting games I played and saw. Although for me it's harder play against people I know given that we already know what we play, I'd like to think I did okay, (2 draws and a win)
My first round was against a friend of mine who I already know was going to play the Caro Kann should I start the game with e4. In an attempt to keep things interesting (at least to myself) I began the game with 1.b3
In my second game I played someone with whom I have a winning record against, and it's always nice to get paired with someone who you've crushed in the past
My last round was against someone that Ozzy specifically told me to crush, so I had my goal in mind, lol. I always brag (isn't that what chess is about? Bragging rights?) when I have a winning record vs someone, and vs this particular person I only have 1 game and it ended in a draw, a long time ago, back when I was a 1400.
This was good enough for second place, if only had I played on in my second game. Unfortunately, however, Ozzy won the tournament... only because he didn't play me... It was a sad day for humanity.
