Why I play the English

I like to transpose into lines of the English opening, usually from a Reti.  Why?  Because these openings, while unambitious, offer positions where both players have many options.  This tends to get the "booked up" juniors out of their preparation rather quickly.  Here's an example of a game that got into unexplored territory on move 5!

How do you find a plan in such games?  The key is knowing which themes work from previous experience and the games of others. Hence my 6.f3!?, while odd looking led straight to a clear edge for White.
