So I've been playing chess for a few weeks now, and I'm improving (albeit slowly). I beat my 13 year-old sister for the first time earlier tonight. I thought she was going to win at first, seeing as she nabbed both of my knights and bishops. However, careful placing of my rooks (and a couple promotions that allowed me to take back my queen and a bishop) allowed me to win. It was very close, but I won by a hair. My sister, whom has been playing chess for 2-3 months now, said she was proud of me and that I was getting better. Couldn't help but feel my spirits lift at that. My ultimate goal is to be able to beat my father someday. It can be done, but it will be difficult as he's in his forties and has been playing nearly his whole life (though he was only played very seriously as a child and young teenager).

I'm really considering purchasing a Platinum membership on here even though I haven't been on here long. The tactics training is really helpful, but in order to really get the most from it, one needs to do more than 3 per day. Can any other members weigh in on the value of the membership for me?
