road to the middle
Every time I talk to coaches online with a question about openings and opening theory I am told that, “you shouldn’t worry about the open this early in your chess study”. I have a question that I think is a simple one, how are you going to learn about playing an endgame if you don’t make it there, and how will you profit from the experience of the middle game if you’re at a huge disadvantage when you get there? Obviously it doesn’t make since how we just breeze on past learning opening, even if we mutilate them in practice for the first few years. Yet, a lot of coaches and teachers hold to this viewpoint. What am I missing??
