Hello Friends,
I am again back with a new blog of Counterplay, and this blog is about when to counterplay and how to do it. So what is counterplay in the first place?
Ans: Counterplay is like counter-attack, it means that we counter-hit our opponent. Let me give an example:
This my friends was one of my games I played recently, you can check it out on my profile, but with 1 big difference, I had 1 extra bishop on d7. But in the above equal position everything is defended! The one main reason it could be defended is because of opposite coloured, but also we can attack a3,b3 and c3 which will keep him defending, but remember to watch out for a counter-attack from him!
But if you are still wondering why I created the blog in the first place, look at the below position! You are going to understand the importance of counterplay
Could you solve it? I hope so! This involves attacking a vulnerable king and also counter-attack when he had threatened 2 1-move checkmates, we could see a clear path, let us explore a few more positions and then a test!
Here are a few tips:
- When looking for a counter-attack, find the checks first.
- If no checks work, look to attack a piece attacking your camp or annoying you.
- If none of these look o work control some of the important squares the opponent is attacking
This is one more example showcasing that how important it can be to keep checking your opponent and bringing on a king hunt. One reason why it worked was that all black's pieces were away from the action and nobody was there to help the black king, from this position we should try to take away how important it is too attack an opponent king and how put his pieces in wrong squares and finally how to coordinate the pieces.
Here comes the test!
