Being on the radio

Being on the radio

Feb 18, 2014, 6:12 AM |

It won't be the BBC, it will be an internet radio station dedicated to the arts, - but still a new experience for me. And anyone who wants to hear my voice should "tune in" at 8pm GMT tomorrow. It is partly to promote a concert on Friday, but I think will also include me talking a little about my newest piece A Lundy Anthem, which might be performed on May 1 in the church on the eponymous island (to be confirmed).

Unlike my Smartphone Aria a few months ago, there is no direct reference to chess, or conscious link to it in the Anthem. However, there are knights (King Arthur's), and a bishop will attend the occasion on May 1. There is a castle next to the church, and nearby were found remains of two giants, which I allude to in the verses, a male and a female, and one may fantasize they were a queen and king. The entire permanent residential population of the island is - about :) - 32, a chess set's worth, though hundreds of tourists are often there.

I'm pasting the flyer I have been emailing around below, with details of the radio schedule, and of two concerts coming up for anyone interested who lives in the South London area:

Dear all

I wanted to let you know of some upcoming events.

I will be one of the composers interviewed on Resonance 104.4 FM on Wednesday evening, at 8pm in the Clear Spot programme. It will be repeated Thursday morning at 9am. Outside inner London, the station can be heard online at details at - it may also include some poetry by the great William Blake and a few verses of my own.

This will partly promote a concert on Friday, which will include a performance by Martin Jones of my piano piece, A Prelude to Invention. The concert starts at 1pm on 21 Feb, and the venue is St Mary's Church, Riverside, Putney, London SW15 1SN.

The following month, my Guitar Suite, in a version for solo guitar, will be performed by Georgina Whitehead. This concert begins at 3pm on Sunday, Mar 23, in All Saints Weston Green, Chestnut Avenue, Esher, Surrey KT10 8JL.

It would be great to see you at one of these occasions.
