On Saturday evening I faced a young lad named Rowan who looked to be in about sixth grade. He had long hair and a perpetually contemplative facial expression, and apparently he's from the town of Sooke just south of Victoria. After this loss he made a nice recovery, finishing with 2.5/6 in the tournament. Without further ado....

I was pleased with how I handled the opening: no major mistakes, just a couple of potential improvements here and there. Looking at the game now, I'm less pleased that I didn't calculate some of the tactical lines more deeply, especially 25.Bxg7 and 26.Bxf6. Luckily my opponent missed his best defensive move and I got to play a fun attack anyway.
