Beginnings of the professional chess teaching of youth in Serbia

  In the era of big social changes in Eastern Europe and fall of communism and Berlin Wall, state didnt support chess anymore in an organized manner, so work with youth started to suffer even in countries with huge tradition. So, enthusiasm of individuals stepped on stage, and huge personal dedication and devotion. At a time in Serbia stepped on stage Fide Master Zeljko Medar from Novi Sad. The first big organizing success Medar achieved during *Chess Olympics of 1990* in Novi Sad, when in a parallel manner on November the 24th 1990 he organized *Big T* tournament, with an echo home and abroad. 

   Raised in one of the oldest in Europe *Novi Sad Chess Club* himself , Medar even in new social circumstances accomplished good co - operation which lasts until today, bringing joy and dedication to the generations from a different meridians. 

   In 1994 Medar was publishing book *Learn chess with your child*, translated in a different languages. 

  Following road of Medar, another talented coach in 1994. been noticed in Serbian public. From the chess family, Vladimir Deze contributed in a manner that is hard to be over estimated.

  Author of blog in 1994. created reportages about each of these two excellent experts and personalities for the Serbian state television, and in April of 2026 time arrived to refresh memory on those days, full of enthusiasm and positive energy. 

  Even today, 38 years after he accomplished the first chess class, Zeljko Medar is not relying only on the support of *Novi Sad Chess Club* which is generous. Not relying on the support of institutions and media.

  He is visiting schools, youth tournaments in Novi Sad and elsewhere, searching for a new, magnificent talent that is waiting to be discovered.

  Job that has to be loved.
