Is white "easier" to play than black?
I've recently read again a common saying that I recall having heard over the years in regards to advantage or ease of winning general going to white.
Funny thing is, I've played white most of my life and played pretty poorly. A few weeks ago I decided to switch it up and play black. Lo and behold, I felt like I had better awareness and had more wins and draws with the computer. Needless to say, my opinion on the matter is far from firm, but for now I really like the 50/50 rule on chess.com that evens out the live games.
So I'm asking folks here... At a beginner/recreational level, is white really "easier" to play than black for you?
