Honoured to be Snr.'s Arbiter in such CHESS event...

Hommage to Brid CLEARY,

a woman that supports like a column and a column that supports like a woman...

What a night !!

Over 230 children from all over county Wexford had great fun playing 3 rounds of CHESS each .

19 teams of 6 in the senior section {5th /6th classes – aged 11 and 12 approx. )

and the same entry in the junior section!

Parents suggested to organisers it should be called "The Co Wexford Primary Chess Jamboree!"

It certainly was a large gathering of enthusiastic children from Duncannon up to Kilanerin,

having funplaying chess, socialising & having refreshments organised

by the amazing, St Joseph’s PS Parents’ Council!
(… sandwiches/ biscuits/ tea/coffee and juice for players and their families and friends).
And thanks to Deirdre who keeps the whole event running smoothly!

There was a big welcome for our new entrant : Loreto Gorey who entered 4 teams.

Arklow also entered for the first time.

If Galway can play in the Leinster GAA final, we can welcome our near neighbours in Arklow to play chess with us!

We were lucky to have Manuel Gardenes as one of our arbitrators

and also Eamonn Barrett, who founded the chess challenge 26 years ago in Piercestown NS!!

Gorey Chess Club have been supervising the 300 games plus for the last five years in St Joseph’s PS.

A big thank you to Club Chairman, Seamus Halpenny, and also to Steven, Remy, Mel & Robbie.

We could not run this celebration of chess without the help of our secretary Geraldine

and our caretakers, Jackie and Alan.

So the results:

Seniors – 1. Duncannon NS; 14 & 1/2 points. 2. Kilanerin 14 pts. New Ross 14 pts. 5. St Joseph’s 1. 13 & 1/2 pts. 6. St Joseph’s 2. 13 pts
Juniors – 1. Kilanerin 2. Piercestown 3. New Ross

The event was presented by Eamonn Barrett, retired principal of Piercestown,

and Bríd Cleary, St Joseph’s PS.
