I took 1st place in the Under 1600 section of the New Year Bash
Yesterday, I took 1st place (along with 4 others) in the Under 1600 section of the New Year Bash with 3 wins and 1 draw. As well as earning some prize money, I also had a lot of fun and reached a new peak classical rating of 1527 (+15), and my rapid rating increased as well, to 1522 (+3). So overall, the tournament was a big success for me! I played some nice games, too, and the only thing I was disappointed about was that I didn't face higher rated opponents.
Out of my four games, the one that was technically the best was my draw against Charles, a 1472 who shared 1st place with me, having 3.5/4 points as well. In the game, I was on the white side of a Nimzo Indian, and the entire time I had an edge on the clock and the board, and I even won a pawn towards the end of the game. However, he defended well and it was an opposite colored bishop endgame, so I couldn't make any progress, even with my extra material, and had to accept a draw.
