The final round of the tournament was more exciting than expected. The two tournament leaders were paired up for a final fight for first place. The top ranked (and reigning Swedish champion) GM Hans Tikkanen needed a win to get first, and the current leader IM Bengt Lindberg only needed a draw. Everything was set for an exciting game.

But the round started and there were no moves on board one! 18 minutes after the start of the round a clearly stressed Hans Tikkanen came into the playing hall. He thought that the round started an hour later than it did!

The game is provided below, with annotations from Hans Tikkanen.

From around move 50, Tikkanen was down to about a minute on the clock and was basically playing off the increment. Lindberg had more time, but only about 4 minutes. At the end of the game, both players were under a minute.

After this dramatic finish, Tikkanen won the tournament for the second year in a row.
