03/04/2018, I've directed the Schaumburg Quad at the Schaumburg Library.

Due to complications, "quad" 2, 3 and 4 had 6 players each to balance the playing strength.

I'll highlight the winner from each quads with additional pictures taken from the tournament.

Jack Santner

null

Jack, who was rated 1077 when I first met him, just does not stop winning.  One year later, his rating goes up almost 700 points and would continue his hot streak by beating his round 1 and 2 opponents.  In the final round, Jack had an advantage in the middle game but would lose to time scramble.  With a 2.0/3 point performance, Jack would win his quad.

(USCF) 1756 -> 1771

Ethan Gagliano

null

After beating the #1 seed in the first round, Gagliano had a very complicated endgame against the #2 seed of the quad.  The game eventually ended in a draw and Gagliano would secure a victory against #3 seed of the quad to finish clear first with a 2.5/3 point performance.

1557 -> 1630

Ekansh Mehrotranull

Mehrotra would be one of two players to finish the tournament with 2.0/3 points in his quad.  Being the #1 seed, Mehrotra would draw his round 1 opponent, beat his round 2 opponent (#2 seed) and finished the tournament with a draw to secure a two-way tie for first place.

1502 -> 1512

Elton Huang

null

Huang, the co-champion of the quad, would draw Mehrotra in the first round.  Huang would then beat his round 2 opponent and agreed to a draw against his final round opponent to join Mehrotra for a tie for first place.

1400 -> 1428

Zephaniah Mussman

null

Zephaniah Mussman would be the only person in the entire tournament to have a perfect score.  By winning all of his games, Mussman would come clear first in his quad.

1231 -> 1271
