What Is CDC?

CDC is an abbreviation for control the center, develop pieces and castle. It is used through the

1 - 15 or to the 20 move. Let's dive deeper to learn more about CDC.

C

The first "C" in CDC is control the center. The "Center" consists of 4 squares: d4, d5, e4 and e5. You can control the center by attacking it and being on it. In the example below the white is controlling e4 with its Pawn and black is controlling e5 with its Pawn. White is also controlling e5 with its Knight by attacking it.

D

The "D" stands for develop your pieces. You should develop your pieces in this way: Pawn, Knight, Bishop, Castling, Queen and then Rook. In the diagram below white follows this order while black does not. Watch what happens and decide who is more developed.

C

The second stands "C" for castling. I think everyone knows what castling is but, if you don't look at the diagram below. It is where the King and Rook switch places. If you want to castle you can't move your King or Rook until you castled and there can't be a check blocking the space. In the diagram Black can't castle but, white can.

(Black can't castle because the Queen is watching the square.)

Remember that this is just a strategy, and you don't have to use it. It is just to help you if you don't know how to start your games.
