PRIOR TO JOINING THIS SIGHT, I HAVEN'T PLAYED CHESS IN 20+ YEARS. SO I REFRESHED MYSELF ON THE RULES OF THE GAME, BOUGHT A PORTABLE CHESS GAME AND BEGAN.

THINKING THAT THIS MACHINE WOULD HELP ME IMPROVE, LOSS AFTER LOSS I BEGAN TO THINK HOW CAN I EVER LEARN TO WIN/CHECKMATE, IF THIS MACHINE IS ALWAYS BEATING ME? I CAN'T, IT WAS LIKE THIS PROGRAM WAS READING MY MIND, I'D BEGIN TO COORDINATE MY PIECES TO INITIATE A CHECKMATE AND LIKE A CLAIRVOYANT THE COMPUTER COUNTERED, EVERYTIME, SO I SAID OKAY, HE HAS TO CHECKMATE TO WIN ALSO, NO ARMY NO WIN. IF YOU ENGAGE HIM THIS WAY, WATCH THOSE PAWNS, HE WILL ATTEMPT TO PROMOTE THEM.

SO I BEGAN TO TAKE HIS MATERIAL EVERY CHANCE I GOT. HOPING TO GET THE BETTER OF THE EXCHANGES AND LEAVE MYSELF ENOUGH MATERIAL TO FORCE A CHECKMATE. IT WORKED! EVEN THOUGH I WIN ON OCCASION, I STILL END UP WITH MORE DRAWS, STALEMATES, AND OF COURSE THE INEVITABLE LOSSES. BATTLING THE COMPUTER THIS WAY HAS IMPROVED MY MIDDLEGAME, I LOVE IT, ITS THE PINNACLE OF THE GAME I THINK; AFTER WHICH, FOR ME, THE GAME BECOMES PRETTY DULL.

I ALSO STARTED STUDYING WHAT THE COMPUTER WAS DOING, MOVES HE'D MAKE AND WOULDN'T MAKE, THIS HAS HELPED SOME TOO. I GUESS WHAT I'M GETTING AT, IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE YOUR GAME, GET A FEW BOOKS, STUDY AND PLAY HUMANS; BUT,PLAYING THE COMPUTER HAS ALLOWED ME TO SEE THE ENTIRE BOARD AND WATCH FOR THE COMPUTERS: FORKS, PINS, SKEWERS ETC. WHICH IT LOVES TO DO. IN TURN WHEN PLAYNG SOMEONE I LOOK FOR THIS, TO AVOID THEM OR SET THEM; OTHER THAN THIS, USING A COMPUTER TO LEARN HOW TO CHECKMATE IN MY OPINION IS USELESS; EVEN THOUGH YOU WILL IMPROVE IN OTHER AREAS OF THE GAME, WHICH DOESN'T MATTER IF YOU DON'T LEARN TO CHECKMATE.
