Paralyze your enemy

Paralyze your enemy

In GM Gserper article today he mentioned that the chessboard has a square that is able to paralyze your opponent.  But one thing that dummies (like meTongue Out) need to know is how to find the square in your own game, on your own.  In Gserper's articles, its ovious what square will do the trick but in your own game?

I have had great opportunities in recent games to bring my opponent to his knees, but I've not been quite sure how to go about it.  If someone has any knowledge that would help, please share.
