2016 Zadar County Championship
It was an interesting experience to participate in 2016 Zadar County (Croatia) chess championship! 32 players aged 8 to 70+ years fought vigorously from April 4th to 14th 2016. The total rating difference was over 700 points. A 9 rounds Swiss pairing system was used.
Beside collecting the necessary experience cadets have delivered a couple of very exciting games and results, winning over more experienced players.
Marta Antulov (age 14) finished as the best girl (4.5 / 9), followed by Noemi Bedić and Nikolina Dokoza.
Best junior was Antonio Janković (age 14) took with 5.5 / 9 points title for the Best junior as well as Best cadet, followed by Damjan Vučenović and Birkić Josip.
The overall tournament winners were Ivan Jakić (FM) and Romeo Sorić (CM), finishing at 8.0 of 9 points. Ivan Jakić won two rapid games playoffs and Zadar County tournament, retaining the title from previous year.
Your reporter ended in the middle of the tournament table at the end with 4.5 / 9 score. It was great joy playing in this interesting competition at Casper Chess Club in Zadar, the place where future champions get excellent tutition and training from their teachers and trainers. Although I only mentioned couple of names here, believe me, some of these kids from Casper will reach the chess heights someday, maybe even sooner!
I personally thank my friend Anton Tony Pinčić for doing the photo coverage of players in action. I added a couple of images that I took on closing ceremony, too. Please look for photos in my album here.
