Exchange your Opponent's Active Defenders

Exchange your Opponent's Active Defenders

Before showing my game on the White side of an Alekhine's Defence, I'd like to highlight two games which gave the seed of the idea at the critical moment.

Exchanging your Opponent's Active Defenders Example 1

Observe Grischuk's 16. Qd4 which he annotates "The Queen is the only defender of the Queenside, hence it is exchanged"

Exchanging your Opponent's Active Defenders Example 2

Observe Fischer's 19. Rd1 which he writes in "My 60 Memorable Games" the annotations: "In order to swap Black's only active piece"

Game Annotations and Analysis

My opponent has just played 12. ... f5 which I believe is premature, as this allows the opening of the game before he has completed development.

I use the idea to exchange off his active Rook via forcing moves and bring my a1-Rook into the game along the 3rd rank.

Thank you Fischer and Grischuk for this inspiration.
