Petrosian's Sense of Danger

Petrosian's Sense of Danger

Sep 28, 2015, 4:12 AM 0

A sense of danger ... it's the one trait I wish I could improve. When I face higher rated and tougher opponents, the first thing I notice is how hard and tough there defence.

This move by Petrosian impressed me greatly. His ability to defuse danger from afar. The joke was often that he saw what his opponent's plan should be far before he did.

Thematically, I can appreciate this move more after having gone through GM Rios "Chess Structures" chapter where he highlights the most dangerous piece in an IQP position is the Bishop on the opposite colour to the IQP. Here nullifying that bishop makes sense.
