New year... Must do better?
Over the last few years, I've been thinking to myself, well I'm into my forties now ( 48 soon ). Is chess still worth the time and effort of putting the study and effort in to get better, or shall I just turn out for my local B and C teams when they need me, purely for the enjoyment of playing? Gradually over the years I've watched my grading plummet and I really don't think it'll return to what it once was ( pretty average anyway ). I have a full time job, a five year old son and wife too, which consumes a lot of time. Yep, taking chess seriously is a bit of a no no now.
