Newport A v Priorslee A

The title is looking almost sewn up for Newport and we were going there more in hope than expectation of a result.

We arrived though in pretty bouyant mood and up for the challenge. Afterall Adrian has a good record against Nick ,mine is ok against Nathaneal and Glyn is easily capable of beating Chris so if we all performed maybe we could get something. As it was little into my game I could feel myself becoming ill I don't know if that was the reason I played what I did or not, but I had the feeling it would result in a quick game little could have imagined how complicated it could become. Anyway I played what can only described as a dubious french defence ,which posed the question sac or not? Sac was the answer possibly terminal but not the way Nathaneal played it, infact I came out of the opening 2 pieces for the rook up. By this time I was really feeling it and had to make the choice turn to blitz or chicken out of the posistion and offer the draw, knowing Nathaneal it was no means a given he would take it ,but he did. While I made some what of a recovery I was in time to see what I thought was draw on one , Glyn winning on three , Steve better on four and even our stand in for the night Tony at least level also. Well as the night rolled on it appeared everyone in our team lost the plot. Tony in a strang 4 pawns bishop and queen game seemed to be heading for a certain draw until Newports Tony delivered a killer zugzwang. Steve lasted less than a couple of minutes longer as he blundered his rook in a bihop rook and pawn endgame. 2.5 -0.5 turned into a route as somehow Chris had picked holes all through Glyns attack and was in a crazy posistion with 4 passed connected pawns ,with Glyn seemingly in a trance of how lost things were was still playing on ,then it suddenly dawned on him 3.5-0.5 and finally Adrian slowly getting himself in a mess probably even a drawn posistion once more but under time pressure once again cracked and that was that. what at one point of the night could have been 4-1, 3.5-1.5 to us turned out to be a absolute thrashing and leaves us second from bottom of the table.
