Well this was the 3rd match of the season and we have certainly been unlucky in the opening 2 narrowly loosing to Telepost A (I was unable to play after slipping over the morning of match) and drawing away to Shrewsbury even though it seemed the result was in the bag. Newport was always going to be a free hit so to speak as already clear favourites to lift the title once more , but this season they have poached a futher 2 players to add to their ranks, the Arkell's, having not played it was inevitable that Nathaneal would get scared and beg them to play against the Lions happy.png. For the second year running the Lions were set to face the strongest team ever assembled in the Shropshire chess league, surely we couldn't pull off a result again? Well the answer was No but a better question is how did we fail! Adrian played an excellent game on board one against the GM( https://www.chess.com/blog/yngwie1/priorslee-vs-newport ) who admitted if Adrian had played an alternative idea he would have taken a draw instead of playing an inferior posistion, however Adrian was to go on and lose  , I was enjoying my game against Nick on 2 and felt I was winning it right up until the end, others clearly disagreed and having looked again maybe I was deluding myself, but none the less my confident attitude had Nick chewing his pen none stop from about move 7 and he too agreed that if I had offered his a draw earlier he would taken have it, I too ended up going the same way as Adrian losing 0-2 Gary on 5 was next to finish against Nathaneal now relegated to board 5 in this super strong outfit and he finished with a very creditable draw 0.5-2.5 , It was at this point it suddenly looked a possible drawn match could be on the cards as Steve on 4 was a piece for a pawn up while Glyn was a good 15 minutes ahead on his clock and in an ok posistion , Steve somehow constructed a way to hand his piece advantage back but swap it for 2 pawns, but it had become a super complicated messy endgame and he had wasted all his time , so when offered took the draw offer and Newport the match win. There was still chance for Glyn to complete our night of bad luck after he mangaged to miss a simple mate in 1 and too crashed in the time scrambled to give Newport a more than flattering scoreline.
