Telepost had lost their last match and surprisingly find themselves not in the title hunt but amongst the teams challenging for 3rd spot. We fancied our own chances on the night but with one eye still looking at the bottom 2 ,if we could just pick up the points tonight surely any chance of relegation would be off the cards.

The games were very strange from what I saw of them anyway. My opponent Phil had already won the battle as I was preparing to play the French he played f4 move one , I physically slumped as I remembered he had opted for this against me in the rapid play league and absolutely killed me, I sat a few minutes just wishing I had looked something up against it. but what I did play seemed rather logical and not something that would put me in too much danger. I glanced at Adrians game on 1 and it seemed a very odd affair similar to set ups I had seen but didn't look quite right and I felt sure that Adrian was slightly better in the first few moves, Glyn too on 3 had started in fine fashion, gaining an advantage. As it was in my game I just kept thinking about how Phil had taken me apart last time and as the position was similar and the tactics he was employing alike I totally dismissed his bad move , having not punished I was still very happy with my position I could see no advantage for Phil at all and when queens were traded off , I instantly offered the draw which was accepted. After the game Phil wanted to know why I hadn't punished his move 11 simple answer I thought he had a much better follow up than he actually did , he also felt that maybe he should have carried on at the end as he had a slight advantage , I on the other hand disagreed with that analysis but will be happy to see what a computer says or any comments. The overall match did not go the right way either as Glyn had traded off pieces and both players now had 6 pawns and a queen, I think Matt was slightly better but he offered the draw ,Glyn could hardly refuse as their basically nothing but bad gambles on the board making the match score 1-1 then came the result which I believe changed the outcome of the night Steve on 4 was offered a draw and he accepted but both myself and Adrian upon looking at the position was its and easy win for Steve he had just got to do some reshuffling of pieces but his opponent just couldn't move anything and infact had a knight trapped on b1 unable to move at all. This made it 1.5-1.5 by now Adrian was busted try as he might to get an error out of ?Nigel in the endgame , unfortunately this had an effect on the board 5 game as Tony was over pressing trying to force a win instead of just playing the position which was certainly better ,but as he pressed forwards turned into a complete lost game but under time pressure it was Tony who played the better and managed to hold on to a draw. the match score 3-2 on the night a more than unlucky loss.
