After losing the last match it was essential that we record a win against the whipping boys of the division , what potentially could have been a decent season for them has collapsed due to being unable to field a steady team match after match. But with so much riding on it for ourselves would the pressure of needing a win come into play.

Well it was a strange start to the match with board one,two and five absent for the home team ,they had already suggested maybe a default on 5 but fortunately for George he did get a game of sorts. Well my game was odd in the fact that I had a bit of my own medicine I had expected a certain opening and on move 3 come across a move Ive not seen before (Adrian says Karpov plays it in rapidplay) well it totally baffled me and as in a previous match I was the one floundering playing poor moves. Meanwhile in the oddly set up board order Adrian sat to my right was quickly in charge on board 1 and to my left George was 2 pieces for 2 pawns up and to be quite honest I felt a little sorry for his opponent , I played him many years ago and he beat me and was some player although his grade has never been that great but due to whatever illness he has his chess ability has totally  gone and was quite unpleasant viewing. In what was a very dull affair on my board I took time out to see that Munroe too was a piece for a pawn up, the only one that was maybe slightly down in posistion was Glyn. Well it didnt take long for Adrian to win as he managed to trap Tiago's queen. Then George won and then Munroe 3-0 I had already been offered a draw but I knew at this point I was slightly better in my game and I was well up on the clock. As I continued to play I knew I was playing badly but suddenly the mistake happened a certain win , I was pleased with myself for not taking the draw, then for some reason I just proceeded in not playing the obvious to everyone looking the moves that actually won, even my opponent couldn't really believe it, he once again offered the draw and this time I had to take it ,I even stated the way I played that I may go on to lose it. I must admit to being absolutely devastated with my play not the result a draw would have been ok , but my play was terrible and that is when I could easily just give up the game I had played as bad as a beginner. Visibly down all attention turned to the remaining match which seemed to be swinging one way to the other with each move however Toby in time trouble was offered a draw and took it , had Glyn just thought a little while longer he could have played a winning move , but hey who was I to judge , so the match finished 4-1 what would normally be an excellent result just didn't quite feel good enough to me. The news that Newport had convincingly won there match too means that they hold all the cards and all we can do is keep winning and hope for them to slip up, however unlikely.
