Thai Open - 1st round
In the next few blog posts I am going to analyze the games that I played in Thai Open 2015. I believe that analyzing your own games is one of the best ways to improve your chess, so here it goes!
This event took place a few months ago, in April. This was the first tournament for me after an extended break from chess and the first that I ever played in Asia. I tried to prepare for it by playing a few training games, but that did not help me very much. Tournament chess is still different!
The first round happened to fall on my birthday, I got White pieces against an older player from Hong Kong whom I outranked by 450 points, so I was quite optimistic about my chances However, it turned out to be not nearly as easy as I expected...
I was quite happy to get the win in the first round, but it was clear that the quality of the game left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, that proved to be a recurring pattern for the whole tournament.
