Losing against Philidor 1 (game incl.)
Since my wife went to her choir practice I actually found time for an even longer game (18/0) today. This time against a higher rated opponent, I faced the Philidor and didn't play very well feeling a bit too eager to unleash a kingside attack:
It seems I should have played 6. Be2 instead in the opening. Haven't had time to analyze any further than that so far.
Reading about playing against Philidor in an opening reference I got when I played in a chess club, however, it suggests 4.Qxd4 (continuing ... Sc6 5.Lb5! transposing into a Ruy Lopez variation) instead of capturing with the knight. Maybe that's a better idea...
Actually Nunn's Chess Openings (NCO) says the same - suggesting 4.Qxd4 and transposing into Spanish. Better try that next time.
